Nynke Koster is an artist and designer from the Netherlands. Her work explores memory of place, space, and time. She finds her molds in the unique spaces and structures of buildings, fixes them by casting, and takes these embraced places with her. The materials Nynke works with are carefully chosen to give her work a nice, soft, visceral feel.
“It is about catching a place, carrying it with me and giving it back to others”
Her newest project is called Coexist New Netherlands. Nynke will seek out the remains of Dutch identity in New York City, translating New York into new work.
She started her research several months ago after her first visit to the city. Intrigued by the Dutch history she stumbled upon, Nynke began reading books on the history of New Amsterdam, the origins of the city of New York, and its development ever since.
“Through visiting and reading, I’ve built up knowledge about Dutch history in New York. There are several locations I want to visit and investigate to see if I can cast them.”
Starting the 5th of November, she will be investigating several locations in the State of New York. On this blog you can follow her findings.
